We would like to invite all our members and friends to the awards banquet on November 6th. The doors open at 6pm and dinner starts at 7pm. We will be at the Clock Tower in Rockford IL. It will be in the Figgs room, which is in the back of the hotel. It will be $25 for adults and $12.50 for children under 12 yrs old. The banquet will be buffet style with Prime Rib, Broiled Walleye Pike and Chicken Madeira as the main course. A silent auction and regular auction will be part of the agenda as well as our annual meeting and awards. If anyone has any items to donate for the auction, please contact any board member or bring it Saturday night. Reservations can be called in to any board member or let us know at the show on Oct 31st.

NICHA at Holmes Ranch

Everyone at NICHA would like to give a special "THANKS" to Tommy and Linda Holmes. The show pen and footing were excellant. The local 4-H was there to provide food. We had plenty of volunteers to set up the gate panels and park the trucks and trailers. It was a very nice show. We had a late start due to technical difficulties with the new computer/printer, once we had gotten started everything went great. We had 44 entries with 6 in the Youth class. That was one of the biggest youth classes held in quite some time. Our youth's are our future weekend and limited aged events cutters, we are really happy to see that class grow. Here are the points for that show and the year to date points. Our November 8th show of 2009 was our first show of the 2010season. Barry's Livestock Championship will be held May 7th-9th. This show as well as all the other Barry show's will count for club points. We hope to see everyone at the Pecatonica Equine Center this coming weekend.

May Day! May Day! Is usually a cry for help, but not for NICHA. Our affiliate is doing great. The recent Aprill Cutting Fest was the largest ever. More new riders and horses. You are making our events successful, after all, you are NICHA.
Team is our focus for the 2011 area work offs. As you select the NCHA, NICHA shows coming up, try to focus on classes that allow you and your horse to become qualified. As an affiliate, NICHA will offer support. Stalling, Transportation, and Horse preparation, are some of the areas that members can help other members. Any Questions please ask. Team NICHA is a go! Lets prepare for the Nationals.
One thing I have noticed is the positive attitude of the membership. Turn Back help, loaning horses, changing cattle, volunteer office support, smiling faces as cutters check out, and professional trainers educating the new comers. Thank you NICHA, again thats you.
2010 will have 2 sets of awards for year end recognition. Please stay tuned in your classes as to where your placings are in relationship to awards.

WE HAVE A VERY FULL CUTTING CALENDAR THIS YEAR. CUTTING FEST WAS A GREAT SUCCESS AND SUE BARRY WILL HOST THIS EVENT AGAIN THIS YEAR. THE POINTS AND AWARDS WILL BE SEPARATE FROM NICHA POINTS AND AWARDS. A NICHA MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED TO SHOW.

BARRY'S LIVESTOCK WILL BE HOLDING A CHAMPIONSHIP WITH ADDED MONEY ONE WEEKEND EVERY MONTH. THE POINTS FOR THOSE SHOWS WILL BE APPROVED AND ADDED TO THE NICHA POINTS FOR YEAR END AWARDS.

Here is the standings for the high point trophy provided by NCHA. Last year Gerald Mielke won it on Cat's Dunn It. Thanks to Julie's performance in Iowa on Holly Biltoft, she is in the lead for high point. It is a tight race and could go right down to the last show!

NCHA 2000 Limit Rider trophy winner!

A special congradulations to Julie Zimmerman for bringing the Ncha days trophy home. She won the 2000 Limit Rider class marking a 74 Saturday, riding her mare Holly Biltoft. They came back on Sunday with a 71 for 2nd place and the overall win. Her daughters came down with her to support her.

Just a little note to let everyone know that Pat has had some technical problems with the internet connection at her new home in Texas. They will have repairmen out on Friday to fix the connection. Here's today's points and year to date. We did manage to get our horses shown without getting rained on. It actually turned out to be a nice day. Our May 23rd and 24th shows will be a Championship with an AQHA Alliance Cutting held both days. If you are going to show in the fresh cattle classes please let us know. Just a little update on our club. Pat is taking a small break so that they can get settled in Texas. Our show had a great turnout for the first show of the year. We handed out awards and prizes through out the day. It was nice to see so many new faces as well as the cutters from our club. Everyone worked hard to keep the cutting running smooth. We were running up against bad weather coming in and wanted to get everyone on the road before it hit. A special thanks to Lee Foster that donated his time to judge our show. The next show is Cutting Fest in Byron IL on April 11th. This is an opportunity to sharpen your showing skills at a reasonable fee. This will be separate from NICHA points with it's own awards. Please watch the weather, we will cancel if we have too much rain. Contact Jessie for information 815-291-8919. We have raffle tickets for a 7 day stay at Christmas Mountain at the Wisconsin Dells. They Made the Finals!!

Boot Scootin TR has made the finals. You can watch the finals through the NCHA webcast or on RFD-TV channel 231 if you have DISH. Cara marked a 214 last night to secure a spot tonight. She drew up 23 out of 25 horses. Randy and Pam Olsen bred TR Dual Rey to their mare Boot Scootin Boony. She is out of Smokin Carman and Peptoboonsmal. Congratulations Randy, Pam and Cara.

Cutting Industry Is Still Hot

If anyone has been watching the futurity auctions they may find themselves excited about how much the horses are still bringing despite our economy. At times it seems some are going too cheap and there is a lot of no sales. The older horses aren't doing as well, geldings either. It seems to me that people are looking to the hot stallions and well bred mares. Well bred broodmares seemed to be doing well. On that note I have to congratulate the Barry family on the sale of their mare Playin Tag. She won Superstakes with Cara on board and many other championships with a total winnings of over $235,ooo. She is bred to Spots Hot and sold for $220,000. Randy and Pam Olsen bred and raised her. Not bad for a home grown mare! I watched another dream mare sell for $425,000. It was Peek A Boon, a daughter of Smart Little Lena and Royal Blue Boon. It was a great package, she came with a Dual Rey on her side, an embryo and 2 paid up breedings to good stallions for 2009. We may see less horses being bred, we will see better bred horses.

Futurity Update

Randy Olsen's horse, Boot Scootin TR, ridden by Cara Barry-Brewer has drawn up last in the 4th set of cattle. The Open semi-finals will by shown on Saturday Dec. 13th. Cheri Mcgann will be showing on Tuesday the 9th, she is draw #44. I think she will be showing between 12 and 12:30. Right now a 215.5 is leading the Amateur. Go Cheri!
